Your First Visit
When you first enter the orthodontic office, you’ll be met with a warm greeting from our front office team member. We will ask you to fill out a series of new patient forms if you have not already done so prior to your appointment. This helps us get to know you a bit better as well as your smile goals. Soon enough, you’ll get to meet with one of our orthodontists to discuss these goals in more detail. After a brief exam, they’ll recommend treatments that they believe will help you resolve you and your family’s orthodontic needs.

Best Methods for Handling Common Orthodontic Emergencies
It’s always better to give our orthodontic office a call sooner rather than later during an emergency. Just like when you need to handle a dental emergency, it’s better to be safe than sorry. When you call, we’ll get you scheduled for an appointment right away and provide advice to make you more comfortable before you arrive. Broken Bracket
Push the bracket back into place using a cotton ball or swab if still attached. Then, cover the bracket with orthodontic wax so it does not move. This material can be purchased at most grocery stores and pharmacies. Next, rinse your mouth with saltwater to promote healing of any cuts or sores. Make sure to avoid hard or sticky foods moving forward.
Poking Wire
Push the wire flat against the tooth using a Q-tip. Cover it with relief wax, which will help if the wire cannot be pushed against a more comfortable spot. It’s also ideal to clip the wire using a pair of nail clippers, but only do so if no other option is available. Use gauze or a tissue to catch the clipped wire.
Oral Pain & Soreness
After braces have been first affixed to teeth, you will experience a small amount of discomfort for the first day or so. This is why sticking to a soft diet during this time is important. You can also rinse your mouth with warm salt water to reduce discomfort. If soreness continues for longer than that, take an over-the-counter pain reliever and get in touch with our orthodontic office right away.
